Le Meridien Bora Bora, French Polynesia

Le Meridien Bora Bora has been named the world’s ‘top island resort’ by members of the Starwood Preferred Guests programme.

The luxury resort in French Polynesia earned the accolade after members were asked to name their favourite island paradise for 2012 from among Starwood’s range of brands, which includes Le Meridien, W Hotels, St Regis, Aloft and The Luxury Collection.

Le Meridien Bora Bora was renovated in 2011 by French interior designer Didier Lefort and retains many distinctive elements of Polynesian culture, such as the superb ceiling frescoes and doors inlaid with intricate patterns made from tiny shells.

The all-bungalow resort features 60 overwater and 22 premium overwater bungalows – all with brilliant views of the lagoon and Otemanu Mountain.

The Starwood Preferred Guests programme was launched in 1999 with an innovative no blackout dates policy for redeeming rewards points earned by staying in Starwood’s more than a thousand hotels and resorts worldwide.
