Luxury yacht types
There are three main types of luxury yachts – motor yachts, sailing yachts and catamarans. All of these are available for charter throughout the world.
Because of their size, most luxury yachts are crewed, but it is possible to charter smaller vessels ‘bareboat’ if you are an experienced sailor.
Superyacht charter
Super yachts start off from 24m are the absolute epitome of luxury and class. No expense is spared on these vessels and every need is taken care of. Crewmembers often outnumber guests and offer five-star service, while making sure you make the best use of the brilliant amenities onboard.
Multiple decks, lavish master suites and hot tubs come as standard, as well as fitness centres, gorgeous dining and entertaining areas and all the water toys imaginable.
Sailing yacht charters
Because of the skill and precision needed to handle a large sailing yacht, most vessels more than 15 metres long are chartered with a dedicated crew. These elegant boats are simply unmatched for sheer class.
Smaller yachts can be skippered yourself and give you the freedom to explore and enjoy the company of friends. These ‘bareboat’ charters are also great value.
Motor yacht charter
Most crewed motor yachts range from 12 to 24 metres in length and combine the service of a great hotel with the freedom to explore in complete freedom. They can have up to 4 cabins with en-suites and suit families or groups of couples. They will allow you to enjoy all the comfort of a private yacht, with great food, service and pampering.
Motor yachts up to 12 metres can be also chartered if you have a license and can handle the boat. If you’re not sure, you can always use the services of a local skipper.
Destinations
The most popular cruising areas for yachts in summer are the Mediterranean, Adriatic and Aegean. You could set off from any number of famous ports on the French Riviera, such as Antibes, Cannes, St Tropez or Monaco, head to the eternally popular islands of Corsica and Sardinia, or set a course for the Italian Riviera and Amalfi Coast. The Balearic Islands are another favourite, as are Greece and the Dalmatian coastline of Croatia and Montenegro.
In winter Caribbean hot spots such as St Barts and Antigua come alive along with Florida, the Bahamas and the rest of the Americas. It’s also a great time to cruise to exotic locations in Asia and the Pacific.
