The Siam Bangkok opens with great expectations

Bangkok’s newest urban boutique resort, The Siam, promises to exceed the expectations of even the most jaded traveller by redefining the idea of the luxury boutique and urban resort.

The Siam is a private 39-room luxury retreat located in Bangkok’s royal Dusit district, with an enviable river frontage on the city side of the Chao Praya River.

In a city where five-star hotels are a dime and dozen, it’s refreshing to see a hotel opening that is paying homage to local heritage and a golden age of travel.

Designed by internationally acclaimed architect Bill Bensley, the Art Deco inspired, Thai antique-infused masterpiece is set to become Bangkok’s premier urban resort.

“My studio team has designed some 150 plus hotels and resorts worldwide and we have received many accolades,” Bensley said.

“But I am most excited about The Siam, as I know it is going to turn heads.”

Just some of the innovations The Siam is unveiling include Bangkok’s first pool villas and what may be a first for the hotel world, a luxury Muay Thai gym with a boxing ring.

A spokesperson for the company said: “This is by far the most exciting project for Bangkok, where there is admittedly an overload of 5-star chain business hotels and wannabe ‘boutique’ properties (all not-so-secretly managed by behemoth chains) plus plenty of cute & cosey B&Bs. But nobody has done what we’re doing: catering to the ultra luxury leisure market & turning the Bangkok experience on its head through architecture, design, art & antiquities, health & wellness plus location.”

Spacious suites

The Siam features 39 of Bangkok’s most spacious suites and pool villas and historical Thai teakwood houses, as well as the owners’ private art & antique collections. Suites are fitted with lavish furnishings, super-sized king beds and high ceilings and each is individually designed with original turn-of-the-century oriental artwork and antiques, all catered for by a personal butler.

For an ultimately unique experience, dine or stay in one of four traditional, Thai teakwood houses brought to Bangkok by Jim Thompson from the ancient capital of Ayutthaya for his socialite friend & fellow antique collector, Connie Mangskau.

These Siamese homes on stilts hosted an array of cosmopolitan characters in their heyday, including Jacqueline Kennedy. Each of these spacious rooms is individually designed with original antiques and artwork from turn-of-the-century Siam.

Dining

The Siam features a riverfront Thai restaurant promising a ‘cultural experience like no other, with sublime service in a serene setting’ and a cooking school. There’s also the chic Deco Bar and Bistro, as well as a traditional Thai coffee room and patisserie replete with tea garden.

Amenities

A riverside infinity pool with jacuzzi bed, children's splash pool, library with screening room, meeting room for 30, antique gift shop, art gallery, private pier for river excursions and transfers, conservatory and traditional Thai houses and some lovely gardens.

Wellness****

A fully equipped gym with the Muay Thai training centre, an outdoor yoga terrace, sumptuous spa with hammam-inspired bathhouse, steam and sauna room, and a dedicated hair and nail salon.
