What we love
- Private wine cellar
- View of lavender fields and Luberon mountains
- 10-minute drive to Saignon village
With its enviable location in the heart of Provence, surrounded by the Luberon National Park, Bastide de Sivergues offers an idyllic French retreat for up to 14 guests. Marseille Airport is an hour and a half by car or you could travel via Nice, which is an extra hour's drive, if you're spending longer in France. The small hilltop village of Saignon is a ten-minute drive from the property, where you can wander the narrow streets and seek the welcome shade of the café-lined squares. The ancient papal city of Avignon is a one-hour drive west and Aix-en-Provence is the same distance south.
This grand villa is built in the typical Provençal style – stone and exposed wood beams and flooring are traditional materials for the region. But walk inside and you're greeted by an interior that has adapted to a contemporary lifestyle while retaining the heritage of the building. A first-floor mezzanine balcony wraps around the entire living area to create a double-height space, which exudes grandeur, and the five bedrooms and two studios are all individually furnished. Outside, lawns and woodland encompass the 12-metre pool, offering areas for contemplation and relaxation, as well as room for children to roam and run.
Breathe in the heady scent of lavender from the nearby fields or lose yourself in a book and sip a morning coffee in a shaded nook. Explore the locale by the many paths and trails that are in direct reach of the bastide, or venture further afield to discover the beauty and history of Provence. You can stock the pantry with exquisite local ingredients from the daily markets in surrounding towns and browse the brocantes for eclectic antiques and collectables. Select wines from your private cave à vin and enjoy al fresco dining on sultry summer evenings.

The village of Saignon is perched at the top of a hill behind a large rock which dominates the valley.
Saignon is a peaceful little village that you can explore by foot. Opposite the town hall you will see a very pretty 12th century Roman church.
While walking through the narrow streets you will discover ancient fountains, picturesque shady squares and beautiful old houses with intricate doorways.
Easy access to the rock of Saignon Do not hesitate to climb to the top of the rock where there is a fabulous panoramic view of the plains and the Luberon mountain range.
If the weather is fine, you can see Mont Ventoux, the Lure mountain, the Alpes de Haute Provence and even the heights of Avignon!
Thanks to its rock, Saignon played a key defensive role for the town of Apt, attacked through the centuries by numerous invasions... although not yet by tourists!
Saignon is still relatively unknown so you can appreciate the beauty of the countryside and discover delightful walking trails in the surroundings and around Mont Luberon.
The easiest way to get to Inland Provence from the US is to fly to Marseilles International Airport (MRS). If you would like to see Paris, fly to Charles de Gaulle Airport then connect directly to the TGV(high speed train) from CDG TGV2 to Avignon TGV(3 hours direct) and rent a car. You would plan to see Paris on the way back, taking the TGV from Avignon TGV to Gare de Lyon, getting a cab to your hotel in the city.
