Designed by one of Bali's leading architectural firms, Jeghier, Umah Daun combines traditional aesthetics with contemporary design and features, and places it in a timeless Balinese setting overlooking rice fields, bamboo and banana groves.  Translating as ‘leaf house' in Indonesian, the four interconnecting pavilions have stunning leaf-shaped sloping roofs, resulting in soaring wooden ceilings from the inside, and eye-catching features from the outside.

Built in a long, gently curving arc around a lawned garden fringed with flourishing flower beds and a huge infinity edge swimming pool, every room is treated to glorious tropical views.  The ground floor living spaces are hugged by a shallow pond that dips down to the garden creating a sense of motion and fluidity, while the upper floor bedrooms and roof terrace are wrapped by a shady veranda.  Air-conditioned throughout, the villa also features glass fold-back doors that allow a semi-outdoor living experience.  Cream coloured interiors and exteriors are accented in dark timber and grey andesite stone, while a smattering of ethnic artefacts, vibrant paintings, richly detailed woodcarvings and colourful batik-print cushions create bright features.

Obviously designed with families in mind, Umah Daun incorporates colourful adjoining kids rooms, a playroom brimming with beanbags and board games, a tree house, and separate wading area in the pool.  The immense space gives plenty of scope for privacy, while communal area include a large living room with Sonos sound system, inside and outside dining areas, an atmospheric games room with billiard table, study/library, and media room with flat-screen Satellite TV and DVD player.  The team of friendly staff is a definite highlight of a stay at Umah Daun, and includes a skilled chef who prepares extensive international, Asian and Indonesian meals on guest account, which can be complemented by a bottle of wine from the cellar.

The peaceful village of Umalas is an easy stroll across the rice fields, while the ocean beaches of Canggu are just a few kilometres away, as is the buzzing district of Seminyak, renowned for its bars, boutiques, beach clubs and international restaurants.
