Points of interest

There are many rewarding experiences that can be enjoyed within a short distance of the villa – on foot or with a short vehicle trip.

Entertainment

Suburban Cape town boasts entertainment galore. The Baxter Centre (10 minutes drive) hosts top drama, dance, music and comedy. Maynardville Open-air Theatre (10 minutes drive) presents annual Shakespeare and ballet seasons in January/ February. Kirstenbosch's Summer concerts offer top local/global music acts on its lawns from November to end-March.

Environmental/scenic

No visit to Cape Town is complete without a visit to world famous Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens (10 minutes drive or 25 minutes walk from 18 on Hillwood). It showcases the Cape Floral Kingdom, the most species-rich on earth and South Africa's varied biomes. A staggering aerial tree-canopy walkway is just one of its many attractions, which also include open-air concerts on the lawns in summer.

Sporting

Sport-lovers are within walking distance of the famous Newlands Cricket and Rugby stadium which both host a variety of local and international and test fixtures seasonally. Other major events held near the villa are events like the famous Two Oceans Marathon and the Argus Cycle Tour. Three top-rated urban Golf courses are 15-20 minutes away.

Shopping

18 on Hillwood is 5 minutes drive from the heart of the major shopping hub of Claremont. Its most well-known retail centre is the upmarket shopping precinct of Cavendish Square, which offers exclusive local and global outlets that offer everything from designer apparel and accessories to top local design, interior, travel, IT, foreign exchange outlets and more. Almost every guest retail need is easily available here.

Local Arts & Crafts

There are a variety of local fine art and craft facilities in the southern suburbs. One of the loveliest is the Montabello Design Centre, located just 5 mins drive from 18 on Hillwood. Synonymous with some of the roots of Cape art and design, it houses fine art, ceramic, jewellery, craft and other working studios as well as a restaurant and nursery. Locally made art, crafts and gifts are for sale. An art-lovers 'must- see'.

Wine & Brewing Heritage

The Constantia Winelands, praised by Europeans from Napoleon to Jane Austen, are over the hill from 18 on Hillwood. Estates like Klein Constantia afford a chance to discover classic vintages and Cape Dutch homesteads, and are the ideal 'alternative' for time-limited guests unable to visit the Stellenbosch region. Josephine Mill, 10 minutes from the villa, is an opportunity to experience South Africa's original beer and Brewing history.
