Luxury Villa Review - Villa Liccioni
Italy undoubtedly ranks amongst the most beautiful holiday destinations in the world, and the offshore island of Sardinia is the jewel in her crown. A place of unparalleled natural serenity, where dolphins guide lazy boats into harbour and life moves at a gentler pace - it’s easy to see why it has long been seen as one of the most sought after locations in which to rent a luxury villa like the stunning Villa Liccioni.
Needless to say, our expectations were high. Yet drawing up the lush hillside, it soon became clear we wouldn’t be disappointed. Nestled amongst the greenery we found a sprawling whitewashed gem, perfectly positioned with breathtaking views out over the shockingly turquoise waters. An open farmhouse aesthetic runs through the villa itself, a nod to the region's rural heritage, somehow combined with every last extravagance you could ask for.
From the well manicured gardens, we take in panoramic views of rolling, unspoilt countryside, the glistening waters of the ever-inviting Mediterranean lapping below. The house is so close to the seafront you even have private beach access that has you on the sand in minutes - a firm favourite with the kids. These merits continued through to the heated outdoor pool area and covered al-fresco terrace overlooking the azure fringed shoreline that made for arguably the best spot we’ve ever enjoyed breakfast. And lunch. And dinner, for that matter.
Which was, incidentally, served up by our own personal caterers. Full board was included in our booking price, which might make some shudder with memories of ageing hotels and dull as ditchwater B&Bs, but in this instance nothing could be further from the truth, as vibrant dish after vibrant dish were delivered for us to enjoy thanks to a 24-hour butler service (something that both my wife and I loved).
All of the three double bedrooms boast their own living, sitting and dining area including a sun terrace - which is ideal for when you feel like indulging in some real privacy but have a house full of friends or family. Add to that the beautiful fireplace, which gave the place a real feeling of cosy ambience whenever we got the logs burning, and it’s difficult to think of a more comfortable home from home, and certainly not one in any better location. Real relaxation with a refined edge, Villa Liccioni was everything we could have hoped for, and more.
