MONA Pavilions mix arty avant-garde architecture with a calm riverside setting in Hobart, Australia.
The ultra-contemporary pavilions boast original art, a winery, microbrewery, great restaurant and direct access to Australia’s newest and most exciting private exhibition space – the Museum of Old and Modern Art (MONA).
The original four are made from wood and steel with Japanese-style interiors, feature original artworks from namesake Australian artists and have cantilevered decks over the river.
The four newer faceted-metal pavilions are named after renowned architects and set back from the river, all cubed glass inside sheathed steel.
The most spectacular is the two-bedroom, three-storey penthouse. It’s spacious and private with a spa bath on the deck.
What’s the edge: MONA’s £70-million collection includes ‘some of the most provocative and striking artworks of the 21st century’, while its Source restaurant is one of Tasmania’s best.
