Monocle magazine has opened its first retail concept store inside a luxury hotel. The new Monocle Shop inside the lobby of the Hyatt Regency Churchill in London will be similar to monocle’s other retail ventures in London, New York, Tokyo and Hong Kong.
The global affairs magazine has always sold itself as one for the luxury international traveler and the shop will follow in that vein, selling a considered selection of magazine and newspaper titles for the modern global traveller, ranging from Le Figaro and Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung through to Australian Gourmet Traveller, Der Spiegel, The Art Newspaper and Vanity Fair.
It will also focus on more niche offerings like German AD, Collect, Frieze and Frankie. New and exclusive travel essentials that will sit alongside Monocle’s existing range of products, including the Porter luggage collection, Drake’s pocket squares and Comme des Garçons fragrances.
“The hotel lobby shop is something we’ve long been interested in at Monocle; it brings together travel, retail, newsstands and design. Moreover it’s a place that has long been neglected but is an essential outlet for our readership,” says Tyler Brûlé, Monocle editor-in-chief.
