QT Sydney is to become Sydney’s first Design Hotels member when it opens in September this year.
Set to become a landmark in Sydney, the hotel is set within the historic Gowings department store and heritage-listed State Theatre in the heart of the city’s Central Business District, close to Darling Harbour, the historic Rocks area and Circular Quay.
With architecture by Woodhead and interior design by Nick Graham & Associates, the QT’s 200 guestrooms will come in 12 different styles – most with signature bathtub and oversized shower.
The Gowings Bar and Grill will enhance the vibe with quirky décor and food, while the late night lounge and luxurious day spa are aiming at the ‘it’ crowd.
Parlour Lane Roasters, a street side coffee shop that will create an exciting aroma and buzz for arriving guests, will link the lively lobby to bustling Market Street.
A number of historic building elements have been retained in the hotel’s design, including the original timber floors of the Gowings building and the retail showcases in the hotel entry foyer. The lower levels of the buildings have remained unchanged, but important historic fittings and fixtures such as original stone cladding, gargoyles and façade detail, which have been damaged or removed over decades, have been carefully restored.
